No more nappies!

My oldest no longer cries at the school gates, my youngest potty trained herself: it’s the end of an era! Here are some memories…

They prefer sleeping in my bed

Firstborn. Pregnancy: I held the NCT practice baby tight while my own foetus kicked her heart out. Newborn: she slept once the birds started singing. Early months: I fed and changed her, got out, fed and changed her again, by then baby massage was nearly over! Crawling: golden time with no work and incredulity that she was still there every morning. Toddler: a tricky time with bills, thefts, work pressure. But then, a move to the countryside and spring afternoons snuggling on the sofa. Lockdown: craft activities and science experiments. School: extreme separation anxiety.

Tiny but fierce

The second child has obviously been affected by lockdown and cancer, but, more importantly, by love poured into her by the big sister. There have been highs. Shouting ‘Og!’ to the dogs on the school run; dressing up; a birthday party. Lows. She wouldn’t leave me for nursery during chemo; wishing I had more energy to play; her recurrent chesty coughs.

Baby A

I really wish I could remember all the cute things they did. But I’m so excited to see them develop into readers, artists, gymnasts, best friends.
