It’s my birthday week and I’m feeling the love!
FRIENDS
New friends stepped up, skipped the small talk, helped out. Old friends showed up, let me rant, stuck around. Forgotten friends reconnected as if I’d only seen them yesterday.

FAMILY
My brother who visited every week, laden with food, for over a year. My sister, taking time off to take me to lunch. My mum, providing constant love and distraction for my daughters. In-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins supporting us in the tough times.

FREEBIES
Numerous charities sent gift bags, days out, dollies. Ladies where I grew up cooked dinners to sustain us through the storm of chemo. Cancer without voluntary organisations’ emotional and practical support would be horrific.

FOCUS
I need something to occupy my busy brain. Step forward poetry, blogging, campaigning. If you’d told me two years ago I’d be posting videos on YouTube I’d have laughed in your face. It gives me a thrill to call myself an almost published writer.

FAITH
Whatever cancer treatment throws at me, I remain optimistic. I forget the bad times when the going is good. I hope the tablets keep working and that people keep loving us.
