Almost lucky

This post is all about the charitable organisations that have supported me and my family through life.

SHINE (ASBAH)

I remember the children’s parties, spectacular goodie bags at Christmas and pantomimes. This made me feel special instead of a problem impossible to solve. When I became pregnant, they reassured me I’d be just fine. And I was!

BARROW FARM RDA

I hated physio, so I leapt at the chance to ride horses instead. I remember crunching leaves on horseback, jumping tiny courses, galloping across stubble fields, cantering circles at shows and actually being good at something.

PENNIWELLS RDA

After the death of my father, solace came on four legs. I was happy to get up early on a Saturday morning; performing to a Taylor Swift track was a moment to savour. Wise words in lessons still fill my ears when I ride my own horse.

HELEN ROLLASON

Spa treatments can be triggering for a cancer patient. You half expect to be injected not massaged! Not here. I can drift off, letting my mind wander where it wants. Nowhere scary for once, and a free cup of tea at the end.

ST CLARE’S HOSPICE

I am lucky to come here. A regular chat with people who understand, no false hope or crocodile tears, but practical strategies and solutions. A safe place for my children and five minutes from McDonalds.

Hospice activity day

Yes, I am almost lucky to be in receipt of the support these charities have provided over the years!

Dedicated to my dad, who received fabulous care at St Francis Hospice and encouraged my passion for horses
